Floor Plan Example
Welcome to my (example) pre-school classroom! As soon as you walk in, to your right, you will see lower level cubbies so that all of my students can reach and place their backpacks and supplies everyday . You will also see a cozy rug where we have class meetings everyday! My five learning centers in my Pre-School Classroom are technology, music, kitchen, science, and reading. There are many different instructional areas such as the 4 small group tables for small group instruction, the rug at the front of the room is for whole instruction, the cat and mouse table in the middle of the room and the versatile group seating on the reading rug is for one on one conferences with the teacher or small group conferences. I chose to put tables instead of individual desks so that students could easily work and collaborate together. Some other elements that I thought were important to include were the placement of the reading corner, it is right next to the teachers desk so all parties can maintain a quiet environment while working or reading. Next, the music and kitchen center are next to each other because they could both potentially be noisy. I also included a trashcan next to the science sand center in case there is a mess, which is highly likely! I put lots of storage next to the kitchen center so that pots, pans, and food could be stored there. I also put a sink, step stool and trashcan next to the door in case there are art projects where the students need to wash their hands. I placed the teachers desk in the back corner because I want my classroom to be completely student centered but I also wanted to be able to see all students if I were to ever be sitting at my desk with my students in the room (not very likely). I put a big storage area right by the teacher’s desk for papers and other supplies that are needed
